Most frequent questions and answers

Sea moss—aka Irish moss—is a species of red algae found on the Atlantic shorelines of North America, Europe and the Caribbean Islands. Historically, the seaweed has been harvested and dried to create carrageenan, a common thickening ingredient akin to a vegan gelatin. Carrageenan has actually been the center of wellness for years due to its potential links to inflammation and other illnesses.

Sea moss has no acquired taste but sooo many health benefits

Like chia seeds, aloe and okra, sea moss is a mucilaginous food. As gross as this sounds, its snotty texture makes it a great healing/soothing agent for mucus membranes in the body, including the respiratory and digestive system. According to some studies, sea moss can have a prebiotic effect during digestion. This means that it can increase beneficial short-chain fatty acids in the colon, get rid of bad bacteria in the gut, and improve overall gut health and immunity.

The healthful properties of Irish moss include Vitamins A, E, F and K, Calcium, Potassium and Sulfur. It is also a naturally occurring source of Iodine, which can be difficult to include in one’s diet through food alone.

Irish Sea moss is an immune booster, can improve your thyroid function, increase energy level, works as a skin nourishment for acne, eczema and other skin conditions. It has even been said to improve your overall emotional health.

It also holds anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.

Sea moss can be applied as a topical for skin conditions such as dry skin and eczema. Simply apply it to the affected area with a make-up brush or clean cotton ball. Allow the gel to dry on skin for a minimum of 20 minutes. Gently rinse off gel with cool water. Continue this process until you are satisfied with your progress.

Sea moss is ingested.  Sea moss should be taken DAILY~at least 2 tablespoons full. You can also add it to smoothies, yogurt, grits, oatmeal, tea or any other foods of choice.

Sea moss hair and scalp conditioning oil can be applied weekly, after shampooing, as a scalp conditioner. Apply it to the hair and scalp, while the hair is damp and cover with a plastic cap for 10 minutes. Rinse hair with cool water and style as desired.

Sea moss scalp conditioner may also be applied to the scalp 4 days per week. On dry hair, the oil should be applied directly to the scalp, preferably the affected area.  Massage into scalp and cover with satin cap
